Camping at Detroit Lake

We went to Detroit Lake for one night of camping and it was a lot of fun. We got there around 3 p.m. and set up our camp site. Jaycoby was on repeat mode..."Can I help you, Mike? Can I help you, Mike?" :). So he assisted with setting up the tent and prepping our sleeping area.
Then he wanted to go fishing, so we headed down to the dam. The people next to us caught one fish, but there wasn't a lot of action. We stayed for about an hour and then packed up our gear.
We headed back to our camp site for dinner, but it was still a little early. First, we went down to the docks to drool over the boats and to our surprise, Jaycoby wanted to play in the water. Then we roasted hot dogs for dinner and did s'mores for dessert (of course!). Turns out, Jaycoby just likes to "lick" the unroasted marshmallows. We let him torch a few of them in the fire, but he's really not into s'mores or toasty marshmallows. He'll learn to like them when he's older.
We put Jaycoby to bed at 9 p.m. and he went to sleep like a champ. When we got into the tent he was sacked out and didn't even flinch when Mike and I both woke up at 12:30 for a potty run. Of course, he rose with the sun and we were not ready to. I was able to keep him tame from 6 a.m. til 7:45, but then we had to let him loose.
After breakfast, we headed back to the dam for another session of fishing. It was just as uneventful the second time around, so we didn't last the full hour. We did our best and Jaycoby was totally into it.
This was totally my kind of camping. I'm happy with bathrooms and showers. It would have been even better if we'd had a boat. Then we could last a week! But it was a great night away as a family and Jaycoby is already planning another.
